[ser-SEE] NOUN
A "surcee" is a thoughtful, unexpected gift, often a small one, given with no specific occasion in mind. It signifies a "just because" gesture of love and thoughtfulness. The emphasis is on the sentiment behind the gift, not the cost or grandeur.
OUR STORY
Surcee’s is a cherished landmark, steeped in rich history. Originating in the 19th century as a popular candy shop, the space has evolved into a premier venue for private functions and fêtes. Known for over a decade as Upstairs at Midtown, it served as the setting for many memorable moments. Recent renovations, including an exciting expansion, have allowed Surcee’s to retain its historic allure while offering contemporary conveniences and greater capacity. Celebrating its legacy, the venue honors its past while elevating the event experience.
Surcee’s began with a love for hospitality and historic spaces. In 2010, we opened Upstairs at Midtown as an intimate event venue, hosting over 1,000 celebrations in the heart of Charleston. As our vision grew, we expanded into a larger, reimagined space—bringing new life to 557 and 559 King Street while preserving their charm. Today, Surcee’s is a reflection of that journey, designed to bring people together in an elevated and effortless way.
